Dr Michael G. Collins MBChB FRACP PhD works as a consultant nephrologist (kidney specialist) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia. He is also a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide.
Dr Collins completed medical training at the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and nephrology training in Auckland as well as Adelaide. He has a PhD in transplant immunology (University of Adelaide). He now has a strong interest in clinical trials, with a particular focus on conducting trials of interventions to improve outcomes for patients receiving a kidney transplant. He previously co-led the BEST-Fluids trial, a multi-centre randomised trial of IV fluid therapy in kidney transplantation with the aim of preventing delayed graft function. His research has been funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand and the Medical Research Future Fund of Australia.
Dr Collins is excited to be a part of the TACKLE-IT trial team working with kidney transplant specialists and researchers across Australia and globally to address important questions about the management of kidney transplant rejection. Outside this work, he also serves as the Deputy Chair (Scientific Committee) of the Australasian Kidney Trials Network, a collaborative network of investigators that conduct clinical trials across Australia, New Zealand and globally.
